Betway Premiership newcomers Magesi FC have made history by advancing to the Carling Knockout Cup final in their league maiden season. This after they beat Richards Bay 1-0 at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban on Saturday afternoon in the cup semifinal match. Dikwena Tsa Meetse solitary goals was scored by Tshepo Mashigo in the 27th minute, following a mistake by Tshepo Mabua who allowed Mashigo to put the ball at the back of the net. Richards Bay woes continued when they were reduced to 10 players in the 84th minute, after Tlakusani Mthethwa was sent off. “I’m very happy for the club, for the chairman for the supporters of the team. But, like I keep saying, the players that we have got, may not be the most talented, but an unbelievable fighting spirit in this group and as a coach, I really appreciate that. I accepted that we have deficiencies in all departments, but one thing that we are not lacking is a fighting spirit and a strong bond in the group, it is a reason we are where we are,” said Magesi coach, Clinton Larsen.Larsen won the cup as player with Bloemfontein Celtic in 2012. He said the team has always been underestimated by their opponents in the league.“It’s two things that got us to this point, the fighting spirit, and my job to get this team organised. We are changing people’s mind that we’re not that easy to beat. Like I said its my job to get this team organised as possible and to make them as difficult to beat as possible. We’re on the right track to achieving that,” explained Larsen. Magesi’s opponent will be decided on Sunday when Mamelodi Sundowns and Marumo Gallants clash at the Dr Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein.
