Struggling Magesi FC of South Africa’s top-flight league has hired seasoned Owen Da Gama as their new head coach replacing Clinton Larsen.

“He is here,” Magesi tweeted with a picture of the former Platinum Stars coach.

Da Gama is the latest addition to Magesi’s coaching panel, joining Papi Zothwane who was the interim coach and will now revert to his substantive role of an assistant coach alongside Jacky Ledwaba.

The trio has been tasked with steering Magesi away to safety after losing five straight Betway Premiership matches, including 1-0 to Orlando Pirates last weekend, to drop into the relegation zone.

Larsen threw in the towel after a 3-0 loss to Cape Town All Stars last week, saying he felt he was no longer capable of motivating the players; hence management should try someone else to change the team’s fortunes.

The rookies stunned Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in the final to win the Carling KnockOut Cup last month but have since been out of form.
