The State of the Nation Address is not something that Mmusi Maimane has high hopes for.

According to Maimane, the administration is underperforming in every area and moving the nation in the wrong way.

As it relates to governance, “all of us in this nation feel desperately the understanding that there is a widespread failure across all sectors of society,” said Maimane.

Declaring a calamity in response to the electrical problem, according to Maimane, will just give a thieving executive unfettered authority.

“A disaster declaration doesn’t fix your problem, it merely puts procurement efficiency in the hands of a very, very untrustworthy CEO,” he remarked.

He asserts that in order to address the energy situation, President Cyril Ramaphosa should instead lay forth a concrete strategy.
