EFF leader Julius Malema says former United States President Donald Trump has laid bare what he describes as America’s true character, arguing that the country no longer pretends to promote global peace.
Malema was addressing delegates at the second Plenum of the People’s Assembly held in Boksburg on Friday.
He accused the United States of consistently destabilising nations around the world, saying this behaviour is not new but has become more openly pursued in recent years.
“The USA has always been imperialistic. It has always been a destabilising force in the world. What has changed is that the leaders of the US now pursue these destructive policies openly, without pretending to seek peace,” Malema said.
He described Trump as a clear reflection of long-standing US foreign policy.
“Donald Trump has always been the naked face of what the US has always been — violent, imperialist and evil,” Malema added.
Malema further accused the US of spreading disinformation to justify wars in the Middle East, citing past military interventions.
“It was George Bush who led a disinformation campaign claiming that Iraq and Afghanistan had weapons of mass destruction in order to justify destabilising those nations and stealing their oil,” he said.
He also criticised the role played by former President Barack Obama’s administration in Libya, saying the consequences are still being felt across the continent.
“It was Barack Obama who orchestrated the death of Muammar Gaddafi. Until today, Libya has not recovered, and our African brothers are being sold in slave markets in that region,” Malema said.
In addition, Malema condemned what he described as the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife by American forces, calling it further evidence of US interference in sovereign states.
