Mamelodi double murder suspect abandons bail

A 38-year-old Mamelodi man accused of gunning down his girlfriend and her cousin in a shocking gender-based violence case has abandoned his bail application, keeping him behind bars while police continue investigations.

Tebogo Mnisi, from Extension 17 in Mamelodi East, appeared in the Mamelodi Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday after his arrest earlier this week. He is charged with the murders of Tshiamo Moramaga (22) and her cousin Boleseng Moramaga (21), who were both found dead on the roadside in Mamelodi in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police say Mnisi also allegedly shot and wounded their friend, Desmond Semang (27), who is currently fighting for his life in hospital.

According to the investigation, the victims were last seen in Mnisi’s company at Small Konka Tavern before the fatal shooting occurred. Community members discovered the bodies and alerted authorities.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said Mnisi faces a string of serious charges including:

  • Two counts of premeditated murder
  • Attempted murder
  • Possession of an unlicensed firearm
  • Possession of unlawful ammunition

Mahanjana confirmed that Mnisi was arrested on 27 October 2025 at a garage along Solomon Mahlangu Drive after police traced him as a prime suspect in the killings.

“In court, Mnisi abandoned his bail application, and the matter was postponed to 19 January 2026 for further investigation. He remains in custody pending the finalisation of the case,” Mahanjana said.

The NPA condemned the killings and emphasised its commitment to holding perpetrators of gender-based violence and femicide fully accountable.

The case has drawn concern in the Mamelodi community, where residents say they remain fearful of rising violent incidents involving intimate partners. Police have urged anyone with additional information to come forward as the investigation continues.
