Manchester United today announced the appointment of Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim as their new head coach, succeeding Erik ten Hag. The club hopes that the innovative 39-year-old tactician can breathe new life into their ambitions of returning to the summit of English football.

Amorim, who has put pen to paper on a contract that will run until 2027, with an option for an additional year, will join the Premier League giants once he completes his commitments to Sporting CP. The young coach has received acclaim across Europe for his tactical acumen and ability to develop talent, making him a sought-after figure within the sport.

“Ruben is one of the most exciting and highly-rated young coaches in European football,” said Manchester United in a statement. The club’s bold decision reflects their desire to bring in a fresh vision to a team in need of rejuvenation.

The charismatic Amorim, known for his electrifying style of high pressing and possession-based football, has enjoyed a remarkable tenure with Sporting CP. Over four-and-a-half years at the helm, he secured back-to-back Primeira Liga titles in 2021 and 2024, ending a 19-year title drought for the Lisbon club during his first campaign. His success has reignited passion among fans and established him as a prominent figure in Portuguese football.

As he prepares to take the reins at Old Trafford, Amorim’s current focus remains on leading Sporting, who are once again challenging for the Portuguese title this season, currently sitting atop the standings. In the interim, Ruud van Nistelrooy, a United legend himself, will continue to guide the team until Amorim steps into the managerial role.

This appointment signals Manchester United’s commitment to modernising their approach after a turbulent period under Ten Hag. Fans and pundits alike will be eagerly awaiting the arrival of Amorim, who has already demonstrated his capability to adapt to high-pressure environments and affect positive change within a squad.
