Once again, New York raised R&B star, Mariah Carey has maintained her number one spot as the queen of Christmas songs.

According to streaming service Spotify, her hit holiday record “All I Want for Christmas Is You’’ is currently the top played song in Mzansi.

Despite its release back in 1994, the song is still considered the defining modern Christmas classic globally.

During this holiday season, music is considered a critical part of festivities giving families and lovers a soundtrack to their memories.

Spotify described this year as “the battle for the ages among the season’s most-streamed holiday tracks, with songs from the 90’s, 80’s and 50’s all making the top five list.’’

Mzansi’s top 5 is as follows:

  1. Maria Carey – All I Want For Christmas Is You
  2. Wham – Last Christmas
  3. Ariana Grande – Santa Tell Me
  4. Sia – Snowman
  5. Brenda Lee – Rockin Around The Christmas Tree

Moreover, the platform revealed that this year’s holiday music streams increased on November 26 with most streams on Sundays.

While Carey’s song brings families together and is used on social media videos to spread the festive spirit, it bears a complicated history for her.

The singer disclosed that despite loving Christmas, it wasn’t a magical time for her as a child, citing financial struggles and family disputes.

“I always wanted to have a really good time at Christmas, and they would ruin it, so I vowed in my own life I would make sure every Christmas was great,’’ said the five-time Grammy Award winner.
