African National Congress (ANC) veteran, Mavuso Msimang, has withdrawn his resignation letter from the ANC, and rejoined the party.

Msimang resigned from the party last week, citing its failure to discipline corrupt members and unhappiness about comments made by ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula, about the veterans’ call for the party to discipline corrupt members.

According to the statement released by the party, Msimang’s U-turn was made following a meeting between Mbalula and Msimang, facilitated by the ANC veterans league.

The party also promised to address some of the concerns that were raised by Msimang in his resignation letter.

“We are determined that only members whose reputations are beyond reproach will be included in our list of candidates for Parliament and Provincial Legislatures.

“This means that those implicated by the Zondo Commission will not be included in our list if their names have not been cleared by the ANC Integrity Commission,” read the statement.

The statement added that the party is pleased that Msimang has agreed to withdraw his resignation and will continue to speak up against any malfeasance impacting the interests of society.

Mbalula also apologised for the disparaging comments he made about Msimang.

“The ANC will continuously seek the wise counsel of the elders of the ANC in whose footsteps we walk.

“The Secretary General regrets that he made comments that impugned the integrity of Msimang, suggesting that he was vulnerable to taking a bribe from a newly established political formation, or, for that matter, any other source,” explained the statement.

This after Mbalula accused Msimang of receiving a bribe to join the new political party, Change Starts Now, led by struggle stalwart and businessman, Roger Jardine.
