Argentine soccer star Lionel Messi will not feature in two of his club Inter Miami’s upcoming Major League Soccer matches, after sustaining an injury to his ankle.

He was subbed in the second half of Argentina’s face off with Colombia during the Copa America tournament final on Sunday at the Hard Rock Stadium, in Florida

The extent of the injury on his right ankle was quite evident when he was captured on video in tears, placing an ice pack on the swelling that can be likened to the size of a tennis ball.

However, Argentina was still able to lock in a 1-0 win against Colombia despite Messi’s absence

Meanwhile, his club coach Tata Martino updated the media on his condition.

“I’ve had the opportunity to see other images.

There will be tests done to determine the severity of the situation.

We are always informed through our kinesiologist Walter Insaurralde, who is also the kinesiologist of the national team.

He is very cautious at giving a final diagnosis before results are in,” said Martino.

Martino adds that the midfielder will miss out on clashes against Toronto FC on Wednesday and Chicago Fire on Saturday respectively.

Messi took to Instagram to thank his supporters for messages of concern.

“I want to thank everyone for the messages and greetings. I am fine, thank God and I hope I can soon be on the field again enjoying what I like to do most,’’ wrote the Argentine captain.
