In a bid to harmonise relations between the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, and Boxing South Africa (BSA) the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Mr Zizi Kodwa and Deputy Minister Ms Nocawe Mafu held consultations with Boxing South Africa stakeholders on prospective candidates of the BSA board.
The two were previously at loggerheads after the National Professional Boxing Promoters’ Association (NPBPA) dragged the department to court after appointing an interim BSA board last year.
“The purpose of the consultations was to provide an opportunity for the stakeholders to make their comments and inputs on the names from which the Minister will select and appoint the BSA board.
The stakeholders have until Monday, 13 May 2024 to make inputs and comments on these names,” said the department spokesperson, Litha Mpondwana.
Fourteen candidates were interviewed to serve on the board and seven successful candidates will be announced on 14 May.
The interviewed candidates are Josh Cloete, Advocate Khatiga Roshan, Koketjo Tsebe, Aleck Skhosana, Mkhumbuzi Biko, Tseleng Maphike, Gilberto Martins, Tshabedi Serote. Sifiso Shongwe, Luxolo September, Sakhiwe Sodo, Nande Mheshe, Romy Titus and Dr Luvuyo Bayeni.
According to the department, nominated candidates must possess among other things on their expertise and knowledge of women’s and amateur boxing, media and marketing related matters and development and transformation, managerial, financial, legal expertise, marketing, fundraising, corporate governance, as well as a willingness to render community service.
