Miss South Africa 2024, Mia le Roux is gearing up for the upcoming Miss Universe pageant that will take place on 16 November, at the Arena Ciudad de México, in Mexico City.
The Miss SA organisation recently surprised her with the official Miss Universe sash and the wholesome moment was captured on their official Instagram page.
The Free State-born le Roux was crowned Miss SA 2024 two months ago, becoming the first hearing-impaired person to win the title in the pageant’s history.
Amongst the commitments she made upon receiving the crown, was to help build a more inclusive environment for people living with disability and advocate for the rights of deaf people.
The much anticipated 73rd edition of the Miss Universe 2024 competition will take place for the first time in Mexico since 2007.
One of the notable changes is the first ever participation of the United Arab Emirates, which will be represented by Dubai-based model, Emilia Dobreva.
Meanwhile, Le Roux is hoping to add onto the list of South Africa’s impressive history at Miss Universe.
Mzansi had the honour to hold the crown three times, with the first victory claimed by Margaret Gardiner in 1978, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters in 2017 followed by Zozibini Tunzi who became the first black South African woman to win the title in 2019.
This year’s pageant is predicted to be the biggest in history, with representatives of about 130 countries expected to participate.
Reigning champion Sheynnis Palacios from Nicaraqua, will crown her successor at the end of the prestigious event.
