Former President Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto Wesizwe party has cited infiltration by external forces as reasons for the expulsion of founder Jabulani Khumalo who was party leader until he was recently replaced with Zuma.
“In light of external attempts to destabilise the MK party who’s aim is to advance a revolution of the people, the National Leadership Core has taken a decision to expel the following comrades,” reads the statement.
Among those who have been booted out alongside Khumalo is National Treasurer Lebo Moepeng, Ray Khumalo, Bheki Manzini and Rochelle Davidson.
Zuma recently warned the party would weed out ill-disciplined elements and alleged that among other problems in the new party was the establishment of parallel structures by individuals he described as power hungry. He made the threats while addressing supporters outside the high court in Johannesburg following the postponement of his private prosecution case against his successor Cyril Ramaphosa.
“You would have seen a letter communicating a decision we took to remove certain people from positions. More are still going to face similar action because people are obsessed with positions and we are clear on our stance that everyone is assigned temporarily in their current roles, we can start electing leaders after winning 2 thirds majority,” said Zuma.
Bar for the EFF all ANC splinter parties lost steam in their infancy alleging infiltration by the ruling party with COPE being the most recent example.
This week the electoral court published reasons for ruling against the IEC in its attempt to bar Zuma from standing as a candidate for parliament in the upcoming elections.
