The bail application of alleged murderer and insurance fraudster Agnes Setshwantsho has been postponed to 20 December 2023 by the Molopo Magistrates’ Court in Mahikeng, North West.

The 49-year-old Setshwantsho is facing a charge of murder, two of fraud and one of defeating the ends of justice.

She was arrested last month in Centurion, on suspicion that she murdered her relatives to benefit from insurance claims.  The state said one of

During the bail hearing, investigating officer, Sergeant Kheshi Mabunda, continued with his testimony, providing the court with reasons for opposing bail.

He, amongst other things, testified on the false address provided by the accused when she was profiled.

It also emerged in court that Setshwantsho is now a suspect in her son’s death, Kutlo, who’s inquest docket has now been changed to one of murder.

According to Mabunda, Setshwantsho insured Kutlo for an amount of R6 million.

Mabunda testified that the accused bought Kutlo a burger on their way to Mothibistad from Cape Town where he was studying at the time of his death.

She was arrested in Centurion while attempting to claim Kutlo’s R6 million policy from one of the insurance companies.

He also informed the court that they have applied for the exhumation of Setshwantsho’s late husband, Warrant Officer Justice Setshwantsho.

She allegedly enquired about her husband’s pension funds at the police station where he was working before, he passed away in 2016.

Mabunda said the cause of death is still unknown at this stage.

He argued that Setshwantsho must not be granted bail as she would evade trial or might commit suicide.

The accused has been remanded in custody pending the outcome of the bail application, as the state intends to call its next witness when the matter resumes next week Wednesday.
