Outgoing ANC Johannesburg regional chairperson candidate Dada Morero has spoken out against alleged vote-buying at the party’s 16th Regional Conference currently under way in Woodmead, Johannesburg.
The conference, which began this on Wednesday, is expected to elect new regional leaders today as factional tensions intensify.
Morero, who is seeking re-election, told reporters that the buying of votes has no place in the organisation and undermines internal democracy.
“The politics of money are indeed destroying the ANC from growth point of view from an organization is stable, politics of money are affecting us be lcause they end up electing people who are bot fit for the task.”
While his opponent, ANC regional deputy secretary and MMC for Finance Loyiso Masuku, has largely stayed away from the media, Morero has been using every opportunity to speak publicly about the state of the party and the conduct of the conference.
The Johannesburg region is one of the ANC’s most politically significant structures, often seen as a testing ground for provincial and national dynamics. The contest between Morero and Masuku reflects broader alignments within the party, with both candidates backed by different influential blocs.
Morero said that regardless of the outcome, he is committed to continuing his work within the party.
“if I dont win as a chair, probably I’ll be elected as an additional member,” he said.
“And it will be given particular responsibility to do. Or I may go back to branch and participate,” he said.
The conference is expected to conclude on Friday once voting and verification processes are completed.
