The Madibeng municipality in the North West has designated Ramogodi ward 17 a disaster area after flooding at the weekend destroyed homes and roads. At Ramogodi, a portion of Mmakau village under Kgosi Saki Motsepe, several families were forced to leave their houses as a result of torrential rains that destroyed recently paved roadways and washed away road infrastructure.

This week, the neighbourhood was devastated by rain. Distressed locals nevertheless hold the Madibeng municipality responsible for the current state of affairs, despite hoping that the disaster’s declaration would make things better. They said that the municipality used contractors who performed subpar work on the road infrastructure and that the paving of the streets was likewise subpar.

The municipality, according to one citizen who worked on the project but chose to remain nameless for fear of retaliation, did not assist him or the subcontractors in collecting money due by the contractor. He said he was not compensated for his work.
