Rapper Nadia Nakai has dropped a single in honour of her late boyfriend, Kiernan Forbes, popularly known as AKA. The song titled Never Leave featuring Kash CPT is part of her anticipated tribute album to Super Mega.

Nadia released the song on Friday, just two days before what would have been Super Mega’s birthday on Sunday 28 January.

In the song she pours her heart out on the grief she endured after AKA’s untimely passing, her longing for him and reminisces on their beautiful moments together.

In an exclusive chat with SlikourOnLife, she broke down the deeper meaning behind the track.

“The story behind Never Leave is just something I wish he never did.I wish he was able to stay here forever with me,’’ explained the rapper.

AKA’s tragic death came as a shock to the whole of Mzansi and has so far been an unexpected loss to the music industry.

He was gunned down together with his long-time friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane at Florida Road in Durban on February 10 last year.

His impact on SA Hip Hop together with his classic catalogue remain unforgettable even when he’s no more.

Fans like @LEZ_RSA flooded the X streets in numbers to express their support and love to Nadia and the song.

“It’s how Nadia Nakai went with an AKA flow on her new single. That song is beautiful,’’ commented @LEZ_RSA.

“@OkLamjita shared the same sentiments saying ‘’Oh Man Nadia Nakai! This song?? Too good. @Kashcpt feature too. So much heart put into this project.”

“Asked about working with Kash CPT, Nadia shared how special it is that he is from Cape Town and that she sees in him more of what AKA was as at the early stages of his career, ‘easily gifted’.”

Despite reports of recovered cellphones and getaway cars used when the two were killed, arrests are yet to be made.
