In Bloemfontein Magistrates Court on Monday morning, Nandipha Magudumana and three other suspects connected to Bester’s daring prison escape made their appearances.

The disgraced celebrity doctor and “customary wife” of murderer and rapist Thabo Bester has been held in custody until her formal bail application, scheduled for May 3 and 4, will be heard.

One of the accused, Zolile Sekeleni, the father of Nandipha, was given a R10,000 bail with strict conditions, including regular reporting to the police. He will next appear in court on May 16.

Another co-accused, a former G4S employee, Senohe Matsoara and camera installer, Teboho Lipholo, appeared alongside the father and daughter duo on charges of assisting an inmate to escape from lawful custody, defeating the ends of justice, fraud, murder and arson.

Magudumana was asked to take off her mask so that she could be properly identified in court documents. She also blew kisses to people seated in the public.

Last Thursday, Bester and Magudumana returned to South Africa. With Magudumana’s assistance, Bester, a convicted murderer and rapist, staged his own death to aid a jail break from the Free State’s Mangaung Correctional Center (MCC).
