The Nedbank Cup sponsors are breathing a sigh of relief, after three of the country’s biggest clubs avoided each other in the Round of 16 fixtures.
This emerged during the much-anticipated draw held in Randburg on Wednesday night.
Defending champion Orlando Pirates were drawn against former giant killers and Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit, Baroka FC.
The Buccaneers beat Richards Bay 3-1 to book their place in the Round of 16.
Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs had to overcome the voodoo of struggling against teams in the lower league, when they convincingly beat Free Agents 4-0 at the weekend, to book a seat in the next round.
The team has been drawn against Betway Premiership outfit Chippa United, whom they have also struggled against in the past.
Mamelodi Sundowns, who had to work hard to get pass Sibanye Golden Stars in the Round of 32, has been drawn against another lower division side Mphene Home Defenders.
In other matches, Marumo Gallants will face Amazulu, Stellenbosch FC will host Polokwane City, while SuperSport United was pitted against Cape Town Spurs.
Meanwhile, in the last match played on Wednesday evening, TS Galaxy walloped Vasco da Gama 7-0 at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga.
The Rockets will now face Durban City in the round of 16.
The draw was conducted despite clarity regarding the match between Royal AM and Milford FC, as all Royal matches have been suspended until further notice.
The Premier Soccer League will soon announce the dates, times and venues of the matches.
