The South African Weather Services has warned that the extremely cold weather conditions will continue throughout the week and they also predicted that there won’t be any more snow falls throughout the country.

On Monday Joburg residents woke up to freezing temperatures accompanied by snow and rain in some areas. Some parts of the city were completely covered in snow while other areas experienced flurries that turned into cold water later in the day.

The last time Joburg had snow was in August 2012 so there was a lot of celebration and excitement around the city when the first snow flakes were sighted.

Snow also fell in many parts of the country including in Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Eastern Cape and the Free State from Monday morning and on Tuesday, parts of Johannesburg remained very cold, with temperatures falling to 1 degree Celsius (34 F). Earlier predictions were that snow will also fall in parts of KwaZulu Natal including NewCastle but there has been no confirmation so far.
