The newly appointed acting Premier of the North West, Nono Maloyi, says government programmes will not be affected during his temporary tenure.

Maloyi, who’s also the MEC for Cooperative Governance, was sworn in by the North West High Court Judge President, Ronald Hendricks on Wednesday evening in Mahikeng to allow Premier Bushy Maape time to recover after he recently performed a minor surgery last week.

Maape has since appointed Maloyi to act on his behalf in line with Chapter 6, Section 131(1)(a) of the Constitution of the Republic while he is recuperating. Maloyi said he is not going to do anything differently as they are all guided by the ANC’s programmes in the government.

“We are not going to do anything different. The premier is deployed by the ANC, and we are all guided by the ANC. But I will soon meet with the team in the office of the premier to brief me about the outstanding issues that we need to attend to. So we will be dealing with those starting from tomorrow,” he said.

Maloyi who is also the ANC’s provincial chairperson said the Premier is recovering well and will soon resume his duties.

“He will resume his responsibilities as the premier and we are hoping that very soon he will recover. We are putting him in our prayers. I was with the premier this past Saturday and I also spoke to his doctor and we are satisfied that he is doing well and he will recover very soon,” Maloyi said.
