The Rustenburg Local Municipality in the North West, said it expects water to be fully restored to consumers on Friday.

This after bulk water supplier, Rand Water, concluded its maintenance project at the Eikenhof pump station on Monday.

The municipality’s acting spokesperson Odirile Madiba, said despite the conclusion of the maintenance project, water supply to Rustenburg has had to wait for other areas to fill up first.

“It is important to note that Rustenburg is located at the end of Rand Water’s system, which essentially means that it will wait for other systems such as Mogale City to fill up first.

This sequencing is crucial to ensure that the entire system operates efficiently and effectively,” said Madiba.

Madiba emphasized the importance of the maintenance that led to an 86-hours shutdown from last week Friday.

“This shutdown was a critical component of Rand Water’s efforts to ensure the long-term sustainability of water supply from the Eikenhof system,” explained Madiba.

In addition, the acting spokesperson said the teams from the municipality have been working closely with Rand Water to ensure a smooth and gradual recharging of the system.

She said that this is important to prevent airlock and ensure that water gradually builds up without causing hammering in the network.
