North West MEC Community Safety and Transport Management MEC, Wessels Morweng, has applauded the police following the more than R100 million drug lab bust in Thulwe village near, Makapanstad.
The drugs were discovered by members of the Serious Organised Crime Investigation of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation in the Western Cape, together with Counter-narcotics and Gangs, Western Cape.
The authorities followed a suspect wanted for drug distribution when the information led them a small holding in Thulwe, Makapanstad.
“Upon the Hawks arrival, six suspect aged between 44 and 55 years old were found in the manufacturing of mandrax. Large quantities of finished product (tablets) as well as powder were found on the scene. All six were arrested. Drug press, crusher machine scales and packaging bags,” said the Hawks spokesperson, Colonel Katlego Mogale.
Meanwhile, Morweng has called on community members to be vigilant and work with police to fight crime and urged them to report any criminal activities in their communities. “To root out criminality we need community to be vigilant and report all suspicious activities. We applaud the police for swiftly arresting the suspects,” remarked Morweng.
The six suspects will appear in court soon on charges of manufacturing drugs.
