The newly appointed North West Public Service Commissioner (PSC), Advocate Neo Sephoti, has expressed confidence in her ability to fulfil her mandate following her official introduction to members of the Provincial Legislature on Tuesday.

Her appointment follows a rigorous interview process conducted by the Ad-Hoc Committee on the Appointment of the Public Service Commissioner, chaired by Chief Whip Motlalepula Rosho.

Advocate Sephoti assumes the role after a four-year vacancy, with the Provincial Legislature voicing strong confidence in her experience and leadership capabilities.

In a media statement, the Legislature highlighted her extensive professional background, noting that she previously served as Head of Department for both the Department of Human Settlements and the Department of Tourism in the North West Province. She also held the position of Corporate Affairs Manager for the Central Region at South African Breweries. With a decade of corporate experience, she brings expertise in public affairs, stakeholder relations, sustainability, and communications within highly regulated industries.

Her academic foundation is in law, having obtained B.Juris and LLB degrees from the University of Bophuthatswana. She has also received numerous awards recognising her academic excellence and leadership during her studies.

In her new role, Advocate Sephoti will serve as an oversight authority in the province, in line with the constitutional mandate of the Public Service Commission of South Africa. Her responsibilities will include promoting good governance, strengthening accountability, and ensuring the effective implementation of government programmes.

She expressed optimism about working collaboratively with the Legislature and other government entities.

“I do not profess that I will walk in and do everything at once. Where there are insights or advice, they are welcome. There are projects initiated independently, and as members carry out their constituency work, they may identify issues to bring to the attention of the Public Service Commission. We are open to such matters and will escalate them to the National Public Service Commission to help improve the lives of our people,” she said.

Advocate Sephoti further called for cooperation and compliance among stakeholders, affirming that her office is committed to executing its mandate with diligence and fairness.

Meanwhile, Provincial Speaker Dr Desbo Mohono described the finalisation of the appointment process as a significant relief, adding that Sephoti’s appointment marks an important step forward for gender parity in the province.
