The North West Department of Education has scooped ten trophies at the 2025 ABC Motsepe South African Schools Choral Eisteddfod music championship which were held at the Rhema Bible Church in Randburg.
The province was represented by a contingent of 19 schools, 26 Choirs competing in 26 categories.
The competition brought together learners from General Education and Training to Further Education and Training, displaying their musical talents across all provinces.
Reoleboge Special School from Moruleng Village in Moses Kotane Local Municipality obtained the first position in the Special Schools (SID), Own Choice category, while Kamogelo Primary School from Migdol under Mamusa Local Municipality obtained the second position in the Boy’s Choirs category,
Ikalafeng Special School from Ikageng Township in JB Local Municipality obtained the first position in the Special School (SID) category, and Kebonang Secondary School from Mafikeng, Unit 14, in Mafikeng Local Municipality obtained the second position in the Mixed Choirs (African) category.
Mampho Secondary School from Migdol in Mamusa Local Municipality obtained the third position in the Mixed Double Quartet (Farm & Small Schools) category, and Matlosana Secondary School from Jouberton Township in Matlosana Local Municipality obtained the third place in the Male Choir category.
Neo Mukamu, the Choir Conductor from Kebonang Secondary School in Mafikeng under Mafikeng Local Municipality was declared the Best Conductor at the championship, and Holland Khumo, a learner from Botoka Secondary School in, Ikageng Township J.B. Marks Local Municipality obtained the first position in the category of Baritone Solo.
Motheo Moretiemang from Onkabetse-Thuto Secondary School in Setlagole Village obtained the third position in the Tenor Solo – Mattinata category, while Reoikantse Mogorosi a Grade 12 learner from Batswana Commercial Secondary School obtained the second position in the Soprano Solo category.
MEC Viola Motsumi congratulated all the winning choirs.
“On behalf of the department, l take this opportunity to congratulate all the winning schools.
A special thank you goes to all our teachers, learners, parents, and all stakeholders for making this activity a success.
“This achievement by our schools showcases the department’s commitment to promoting arts and culture in schools.
Next year, we want to see many schools participating at the national level.
Those schools that did not make it to the higher positions should not despair but try again next year,” said Motsumi.
She implored on all schools to exercise caution on when they return to their respective areas.
