The North West Department of Education has advised parents and guardians seeking learner placement for the 2026 academic year to approach Local Education Offices (LOEs) in their respective areas.
The department said the Education Hubs were established to assist parents who were unable to secure school placement for their children.
MEC for Education, Viola Motsumi, called on parents and guardians to exercise patience and cooperate with officials to ensure the smooth placement of learners before the start of the 2026 academic year, which is scheduled to begin on 14 January.
“I want to caution parents and guardians that schools of choice cannot be provided at this time. It is now too late for parents to demand schools of choice. Learners will be placed in schools where there is available space, not far from their place of stay,” Motsumi said.
She added that the department is appealing for cooperation from parents and guardians to ensure that teaching and learning commence on the first day of the school reopening.
Motsumi also warned parents against failing to enroll their children in school, noting that the department has observed cases where learners are not registered.
“The issue of children not being taken to school has come to the attention of the department. The Constitution of the Republic of South Africa clearly states that every child has the right to education,” she said.
Meanwhile, the department indicated that it has intensified efforts to improve school infrastructure and ensure the provision of water and electricity to schools across the province.
