The Border Management Authority (BMA) said operations have resumed at the Grobler’s Bridge and Stockpoort Ports of entry with Botswana following temporary suspensions due to heavy rains.
The BMA said this is following their inspections at the ports of entry, which revealed that they are safe to carry cargo and accept travellers.
“At Groblers’ Bridge, water levels have completely subsided, and the ground has now dried sufficiently to support the weight of cargo trucks passing through the port.
The Port Management Committee (PMC) has conducted a thorough inspection of key operational areas and is satisfied with the current conditions.
As a result, Groblers’ Bridge Port of entry will officially resume operations on Thursday afternoon.
Meanwhile, operations at Stockpoort Port of entry have already resumed this week,” said BMA Commissioner, Dr Michael Masiapato.
Meanwhile, Masiapato highlighted that operations will remain suspended at the Bray Port of entry, as the Molopo River continues to flow due to persistent rains in the area.
According to the PMC’s assessment, operations at Bray are expected to resume over the weekend, subject to further evaluations.
The temporary closure at the ports three weeks ago, forced the evacuation of staff, leaving travellers to use alternative ports of entry, such as the Beitbridge, Kopfontein, Skilpadshek, and Ramatlabama.
“The BMA, in collaboration with the South African Revenue Service, thanks all stakeholders for their patience and cooperation during this period.
The safety of travellers and efficient border operations remain our priority, and we will continue to monitor the weather patterns closely,” remarked Masiapato.
