The Rustenburg-based Orbit College FC has gained promotion to the Betway Premiership, after beating Cape Town City 1-0 during the PSL Promotional Playoff at the Olympia Park Stadium in Rustenburg on Wednesday.
The solitary goal was scored in the 47th minute, by Letsie Koapeng, to send the packed stadium into wild celebrations, and ensure that City is relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
The win ensured Orbit made history and booked their place in the elite league of the country, after coming close during last season.
The Mswenko Boys came into the match knowing only that maximum points would seal their Betway Premiership status, while a draw was going to delay their goals, and force them to win their last match.
Orbit now has an unapproachable total of eight points from four fixtures in the min log, while City and Mpumalanga’s Casric Stars, have only managed to register two points each.
Orbit narrowly missed out on automatic promotion in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, after finishing as runners-up against eventual champions, Durban City.
