Orlando Pirates has given their fans a well deserving Christmas present, when they trashed Marumo Gallants 8-1 in the Betway Premiership match played at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Tuesday afternoon. This is the biggest score recorded in the 2024/25 season. The match was delayed in the first half, due to by persistent rain in the first half.

Gallants took the lead in the 23rd minutes when Pirates former player Gabadinho Mhango slipped the ball in the net, following a costly mistake by Nkosinathi Sibisi, who failed to clear the ball. But the goal triggered an avalanche of goals from the Buccaneers in front of their jovial crowd. Tshegofatso Mabasa scored a hat-trick, with Thalente Mbatha netting a brace, Deano van Rooyen, Boitumelo Radiopane and an own goal from Kenneth Nthatheni, helped Pirates register the one of the biggest scores in years, to give their fans a Christmas present. Despite the score, Pirates remain in second place on the log behind Mamelodi Sundowns, who beat a stubborn Amazulu 1-0 at the Moses Mabhida stadium in Durban.

The defending champions were reduced to ten men, when Captain and goalkeeper Ronwen Williams was sent off.Sundowns had to wait late in the game when in-form Iqraam Rayners scored a solitary goal to help the team maintain their three-point lead at the top of the league standings.
