Deputy President Paul Mashatile has confirmed that police are investigating an attempt on his life, which occurred last month. According to Mashatile, his official state vehicle was shot at several times on the N12 after attending an ANC National Executive Committee meeting in Boksburg.Mashatile was addressing the media after visiting on the sidelines of a recent visit to the KwaSizabantu Mission near Greytown in KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday. “You must have heard that the police are investigating. What really happened is that as I was driving from the NEC, my car was hit by what initially I thought it was stones, When we got home, the protectors said no the impact was too much, and they want to take it for checking because you know a bulletproof windscreen is quite strong to be damaged. That’s why they’re doing the investigation,” said Magashule. In addition, Mashatile said he doesn’t know who might be behind the attack but is however not deterred by it. “I’m properly protected, so nothing to worry about. We’re focusing on work now,” remarked Mashatile. Police are yet to comment on the incident.
