KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi says investigators are now focusing on identifying the mastermind behind the murders of rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his friend, Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, following the extradition of all seven suspects to South Africa.

Two brothers linked to the high-profile case were extradited earlier this week and appeared before the Durban Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

Mkhwanazi said police are tracing the money trail connected to the alleged hit, particularly payments made through a business account used by one of the accused, Mziwethemba Gwabeni, who allegedly paid the group over R130,000 after the murders.

“That person used his business account to pay the entire group. We are now investigating the business linkages and partners who may have funded that account,” Mkhwanazi explained.

He added that detectives are working to determine who may have ordered or financed the coordinated killings.
