Limpopo, police are intensifying their search for two of the three suspects involved in the kidnapping and alleged torture of a 27-year-old man employed by a company that repairs streetlights. This disturbing episode began while the victim was at work, highlighting the grave risks faced by workers in the region.
According to police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba, the victim was forcibly taken to a house where he endured severe physical abuse, including the cruel torture of being burned with plastic. The suspects demanded a ransom for his release, directly contacting the owner of the repair company to arrange a payment. The amount transferred remains undisclosed.
“They took him to a certain house where he was kept, assaulted, and tortured with burning plastic, demanding ransom money for his release. They contacted his boss who transferred an undisclosed amount of money for his release,” Ledwaba reported, painting a grim picture of the violent conditions the victim faced.
In addition to the physical and psychological trauma inflicted, the victim was also robbed of valuable personal items, including his cell phone, driver’s licence, and passport. After the ordeal, the police were notified, triggering an immediate response that led to the arrest of one suspect shortly after evidence was gathered from the victim. This suspect is expected to face charges in court soon.
However, the manhunt continues for the two other suspects who remain at large. Law enforcement has escalated their efforts to bring them to justice, reinforcing the urgency of the situation amidst rising concerns over safety in the area.
