Proteas men ODI head coach, Rob Walter believes the team garnered the necessary experience it’ll need going into the Champions Trophy tournament in Pakistan.
This despite losing by six wickets to both New Zealand and Pakistan in Lahore and Karachi respectively.
The loss kicked them out of the Tri-Series final that will be played on Saturday.
According to Walter, the team is in a more improved mindset to head into the Championship.
“I think we have more information now than we did before, both in Lahore and Karachi.
So, from that point of view, to have a good understanding of conditions is obviously a win, and it’s certainly something we will lean on as we move forward.
For those in the group who are going to the Champions Trophy, it was good prep for them,” said Walter.
The last time South Africa won the title was in 1998, and Walter implored on the team to put on a strong game.
“The batters will take a lot of heart out performances they’ve put in over the last two games and the bowlers will work hard to create more pressure to get some wickets,” highlighted the coach.
The Trophy tournament is expected to begin next Wednesday on 19 February and the Proteas will face Afghanistan for their opening match on Friday 21st in Karachi.
