England claimed victory over the Proteas women during their second group match at the Women’s T20 World Cup in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.

Despite a good defence start by the Proteas, the game ended with the final score of 124/6 for South Africa and 125/3 for England.

England won the match by seven wickets with four balls remaining.

The Proteas’ recent hurdle comes after a thrilling start of a 10-wicket win over the West Indies in their opening fixture, but team captain Laura Wolvaardt says the outcome against England was disappointing.

“I think ten to 20 more runs with the bat could’ve been interesting.

Obviously, we didn’t take our chances with the field either, but I think the bowlers bowled quite well,’’ said Wolvaardt.

She however stressed the significance of their upcoming clashes.

“Obviously, the next two are must-win games for us and both could be tough in these conditions so we will have to be on our A-game,” added the captain.

The Proteas will now gear up to face their remaining Group B opponents, Scotland on Wednesday and Bangladesh on Saturday.

Victory in both matches will book the team a place in the semi-finals
