The Proteas Women are set to assemble for a training camp scheduled between 06-14 April, at the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Centre of Excellence in Pretoria, to prepare for their One-Day International (ODI) Tri-Series which will run from 27 April to 11 May, against Sri Lanka and India in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The team also wants to use the tour as preparations for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, which will be hosted this year in October, in India.

The team’s head coach, Mandla Mashimbyi expressed confidence in the squad depth and is confident that they will adapt to all conditions in the sub-continent.

“Our objectives are quite simple for the camp.

We’ll focus a lot on running between the wicket rotational game and build on that through scenario-based matched which will help improve awareness.

There will also be nets for skill development, and there’ll also be a lot of education around team culture.

We’re trying to focus on a holistic player from a culture point of view, skill point of view and mindset point of view,” Mashimbyi indicated.

The coach indicated that the team’s priority for now is how to adapt to different weather conditions, how to play various situations, and how to get out of sticky situations.

Mashimbyi applauded the inclusion of younger players, highlighting that they’ll have to prove themselves and will contribute to the national team’s future.

The week-long ODI training camp will feature 20 players, who will go into the matches with a few scores to settle.

This tour marks South Africa’s first trip to Sri-Lanka since the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup qualifiers, where they lost to India in the final.

The team is also seeking to improve their performance against both Sri Lanka and India.
