PSL announces the 2024/25 PSL Awards nominees

After more than a month of delays, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) has finally announced the nominees for the 2024/25 PSL Awards. 

The awards were postponed due to Mamelodi Sundowns’ participation at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the USA.

According to a statement from the PSL, the awards ceremony will take place on Tuesday, 29 July 2025, at 19h00, live on

The most sought-after Footballer of the Season Award will be contested by Keletso Makgalwa from Sekhukhune United, Orlando Pirates Relebohile Mofokeng, and Lucas Ribeiro Costa from Betway Premiership champions, Mamelodi Sundowns. 

The same players have also been nominated for the Betway Premiership Players’ Player of the Season award.  

The Betway Premiership Coach of the Season will be contested by Stellenbosch FC’s Steve Barker, Sundowns’ Miguel Cardoso, and Pirates’s former coach, Jose Riveiro. 

Pirates is well represented in the Premiership Young Player of the Season category, as the Buccaneers duo of Mofokeng and Mohau Nkota will battle it out against Malibongwe Khoza from Sundowns. 

The awards also see the introduction of three new categories in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. 

These are Players’ Player of the Season featuring Banele Hlophe from JDR Stars, Durban City FC Joslin Kamatuka and Muzomuhle Khanyi from Hungry Lions. 

Cape Town Spurs Luke Baartman, Teboho Lekhatla from Casric Stars, and Milford FC’s Siphamandla Mhlongo have been shortlisted for Young Player of the Season.

In the goal posts, Casric Stars Emile Lako, Sekhoane Moerane from Orbit College, and Dumsani Msibi from Durban City FC have been nominated for Goalkeeper of the Season.

The MTN8 Last Man Standing nominees include Fawaaz Basadien from Stellenbosch FC, Orlando Pirates duo Deon Hotto and Mofokeng.

Magesi FC duo of Elvis Chipezeze and Edmore Chirambadare, along with Sundowns’ Iqraam Rayners, are nominated for the Carling Knockout Player of the Tournament.

Kaizer Chiefs trio, Inacio Miguel, Pule Mmodi, and Gaston Sirino, will all contest the Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament category. 

Meanwhile, the Nedbank Cup Most Promising Player category is dominated by Orlando Pirates, with nominations for Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Mofokeng and Mohau Nkota.

The nominees for the DStv Diski Challenge Player of the Season are Sundowns Gomolemo Kekana, Kaizer Chiefs Ntandoyenkosi Nkosi, and Stellenbosch FC Tylon Smith.
