President Cyril Ramaphosa is “satisfied with the level of progress” made in the implementation of the recommendations of the Zondo Commission according to his spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya.

Magwenya was responding to Chief Justice Zondo’s concerns raised last week where he said the government was not implementing the recommendations contained in the State Capture report he submitted to the presidency last year.

Zondo said he fears that there will be more delays in the implementation as the country gears up for next year’s election saying politician will start campaigning and “we might not see a lot of implementation of the recommendations”.

But Magwenya said “significant progress” has been made with the implementation of the Zondo Commission report recommendations.

“With respect to the implementation of  the Zondo report recommendations. I don’t have the figures right here with me but there has been significant progress on the side of the ID (Investigating Directorate) for example and prosecuting some of the cases. There are a number of cases that are on the court roll,” said Magwenya.

“There are reforms in terms of the state’s capacity to deal with acts of corruption, state capture and criminal activity. Those reforms are underway and the capacitation of the state is underway. Some of the work is being carried out by the National School of government for example.

“We will be able to in a few months time which will mark a year since the President presented an implementation plan of those recommendations. We will be able to provide more details more importantly the President is satisfied with the level of progress. In some cases there is a slow pace and in some cases there has been some progress that has been made in that regard,” said Magwenya.
