The Tshwane mayor, Randall Williams, has resigned.

Williams stated that he is stepping down to maintain the multiparty coalition’s stability.

Williams stated in a statement, “I do not want the political instability that has occurred in Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni to cross over into Tshwane.”

“Continuous contact and involvement were necessary to maintain the multi-party coalition in order to secure harmony in our community and the achievement of our objectives.”

Williams, a DA councillor, resigns before a resolution of no confidence is made against him; party officials had anticipated that he would lose since he had lost the support of his own caucus.

DA leaders Solly Msimang and John Steenhuisen commended Williams for his service.
