A reshuffle is looming in the North West following the swearing-in of the ANC’s provincial chairperson, Nono Maloyi as a member of the legislature. His swearing in has created uncertainty in the province given what transpired in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal following their respective elective conferences. David Makhura was sacked and replaced by Panyaza Lesufi while Sihle Zikalala was also removed from the position and replaced by Nomusa Dube-Ncube. The North West has been besieged by problems for years with its affairs being run by task teams. The recent elective conference is seen by many as a starting block to rebuilding the organisation. Provincial Secretary Loui Diremelo, said the executive will be reshuffled to accommodate the newly elected leadership.
“The reshuffle will happen. It will happen after we have made consultations with officials of the ANC. As a province, we will insist that it must happen. It is inevitable that it must happen because the cabinet must reflect the provincial leadership,” Diremelo said. He said the reshuffle is not a result of a performance review. “We are happy as the ANC in terms of the performances of our comrades. So we will not want to say we are measuring performances. But when we redeploy a comrade, it means even where she or he is being redeployed to, they are going to add value there. So we will not want to say we are redeploying you because of certain reasons,” he said.
Maloyi said the new leadership was ready to take up any role. “Any member of the ANC can be ready for any position. We don’t have a crisis of leadership. It can be the deputy chair, it can be the treasurer, and it can be any other member. So all of us are ready,” Maloyi said. Meanwhile, the ANC in the North West said it had reached common ground with its alliance of SACP, SANCO, and Cosatu after the alliance claimed it was not consulted about the replenished list submitted at the provincial legislature.
