The Rustenburg Local Municipality’s Joint Operating Committee is on high alert, following persistent rains that have hit the area since Tuesday night.
Due to heavy downpours, a vehicle was reportedly flooded at Beiten Street in Rustenburg east.
The municipality has urged residents and motorists to exercise caution, as it continues to rain.
Spokesperson Thapelo Matebesi, said their disaster and emergency personnel are on high alert.
“As for flooding, there are no danger threats so far of flooding and the joint operation committee is on watch, on alert of any such dangers of flooding in and around Rustenburg.
“The only area where there’s been an instance of flooding is at Beiten Street in Rustenburg east, where a car flooded on a particular bridge, so that is the only instance we’ve had as far as the flooding goes,” said Matebesi.
Matebesi said the team will monitor every area and report any incidents of flooding.
The SA Weather Services (SWS) is predicting 59% of showers in the area, with heavy thunderstorms.
It has issued warnings of severe weather conditions for the Free State, North West, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and Limpopo.
In a statement released on Monday, SWS mentioned that the North West will be cloudy and warm, with scattered showers and thundershowers, but widespread in the south-east.
