An unsuspecting plea by record producer and musician, DJ Maphorisa opened up a can of worms for Award-winning rapper, Mthembeni ‘’Emtee’’ Ndevu, as his work ethic was put to question.
Phori took to twitter to ask about Emtee’s whereabouts. ‘’How do we book Emtee, please help’’, he tweeted.
This led to an outcry by record label owner and kwaito artist, DJ Tira, accusing Emtee of ‘’empty’’ promises.
According to Tira, Emtee failed to show up for a music video and his no-show resulted in the video not being released.
‘’Emtee really disappointed me. We dropped a song with @DuncanSkuva, when we wanted to shoot the music video, he disappeared. I have never heard from him since then. The music video never came out’’, said Tira.
Tweeps were divided on the matter, with some pushing him to reply to both Phori and Tira and others accusing Tira of blocking Manando’s bag.
‘’How do we book Emtee was the question…but Makoya had to create his own topic. Umona’’, one user commented.
Trying to contain the situation, Emtee assured his fans that he got in touch with Phori. ‘’Just spoke to Porry, calm down bafethu’’, he tweeted.
However, that was not enough as the push to make amends with Tira also got stronger.
‘’Please reach out to @DJ Tira too. I wish you all the best Sir. Just wanna see you win all around, Take care’’, another fan commented.
In 2019 the rapper faced a number of challenges which included leaving record label Ambitiouz Entertainment, citing exploitation and in the same year he shared news of losing his car and home.
While putting in the work to rise above his L’s, controversy is still following him to date.
In recent events, his wife, Nicole Chinsamy allegedly accused him of being abusive and a drug addict.
The rapper denied allegations of being abusive towards his partner, saying if he did, he would be in jail, however, he admitted to taking drugs.
‘’Who doesn’t know I smoke, I used to sip lean. Manje!?’’, he responded.
Lean is a recreational drug beverage that combines prescription cough syrup containing codeine and promethazine with a soft drink.
All hope is not lost for Emtee though, especially with people like media personality Sizwe Dhlomo in his corner.
The radio and television host emerged as one of the people who still see the light that once was in Emtee when his debut hit single ‘’Roll up’’ was released in 2015.
Dhlomo advised Emtee to not let difficulties affect his grind, as he pleaded with him to stay available so he doesn’t miss any opportunities.
