South African Airways (SAA) has expressed confidence that its operations would return to a 100% flight schedule on Sunday.
This after the pilots wage strike was suspended yesterday, following an agreement between SAA Executive Management and the South African Airways Pilots Association (SAAPA).
The deal would see the pilots receiving an additional 1% salary increase, resulting in a total salary increase of 9.47% for SAA pilots.
The pilots downed tools last week Thursday, demanding a 15.7% salary increase, better working and employment conditions.
The strike affected the airline operations, leaving thousands of commuters frustrated as they couldn’t reach their holiday destinations.
“As part of the agreement that broke the deadlock in wage negotiations, engagements on a continuous enterprise improvement program will continue over the next eight weeks.
We are committed to implementing work-life concessions that should enhance the productivity of our world-acclaimed pilots,” said SAA Interim CEO, Professor Ronald Lamola.
Moreover, Lamola emphasized that SAA 100 pilots returned to work yesterday, and they expect to return to a 100% flight schedule today.
The airline apologised to its customers for the inconvenience caused, especially during the festive season.
