The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has issued a stern warning to the public regarding a fabricated video that falsely depicts a senior officer urging military personnel to partake in an illegal strike, a situation deemed a significant threat to national security and public trust. In an official statement, the SANDF categorically denounced the video as not only misleading but also maliciously crafted to incite unrest among its ranks and among the civilian population.

The SANDF made it clear that the individual featured in the video is not an authorised commander within the organisation, nor do the sentiments expressed reflect the values or discipline upheld by the South African military. The Defence Force underscored its commitment to the nation’s stability and integrity by reminding its members of their constitutional obligation to remain apolitical and loyal to the service of South Africa.

In light of the incident, the SANDF has initiated an internal investigation aimed at tracing the origins of the video. Commanders have asserted that those responsible for creating and disseminating this disinformation will be pursued vigorously and face charges under both military and civilian law. “Anyone found to be sharing disinformation or inciting mutiny will face the full might of the law,” the statement warned, reflecting the seriousness with which the SANDF regards this issue.

The Defence Force has encouraged soldiers to avoid engaging with, supporting, or entertaining any calls for illegal strikes, emphasising the importance of maintaining discipline and order within the ranks. As the investigation unfolds, the SANDF remains vigilant against any actions that might threaten the safety and security of the nation.
