The South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed the successful execution of a search and seizure warrant linked to North West businessman Brown Mogotsi.
The warrant, issued on 16 October 2025, is part of a broader investigation into fraud, corruption, and defeating the ends of justice. Investigators seized several electronic devices during the operation, which took place at the offices of Mogotsi’s legal representatives in Johannesburg.
According to SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, the police team also met with Mogotsi in connection with a separate attempted murder case.
“The SAPS has successfully executed the search and seizure warrant issued for 16 October 2025 on Mr Brown Mogotsi. Certain devices were seized, and the team investigating the attempted murder case has also met with him. No further comment will be provided at this stage,” Mathe said.
Mogotsi, a prominent businessman from the North West province, has been in the public spotlight over the past few months following a string of allegations connecting him to high-level police and political interference.
Earlier this year, former KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi made explosive claims during the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, alleging that criminal syndicates had infiltrated parts of the SAPS and that Mogotsi was a central figure in that network.
Mkhwanazi’s testimony linked Mogotsi to senior government officials and alleged attempts to influence internal police investigations claims that Mogotsi has vehemently denied.
In July 2025, controversy deepened when reports surfaced of WhatsApp messages allegedly showing Mogotsi communicating with associates about efforts to disband specialised police units probing politically sensitive cases.
The fraud and corruption probe involving Mogotsi reportedly concerns multi-million-rand government contracts and allegations of bribery tied to tender processes.
Mathe said at this stage, no charges have been formally laid against Mr Mogotsi, and investigations are ongoing.
