The SAPS has offered a R350 000 reward for information that will lead to the whereabouts of three missing police officers.
The trio, 24-year-old Constable Linda Cebekhulu, 30-year-old Constable Keamogetswe Buys, and 20-year-old Constable Boipelo Senoge, were last seen last week Wednesday, at the Engen garage near the Grasmere toll plaza along the N1.
According to the SAPS, the members who were off duty at the time, were traveling in a white VW Polo from Bloemfontein to Limpopo where they were deployed when they disappeared. Their vehicle tracking system and cell phones have been switched off since their last known location, and police have launched a full-scale investigation and search operation.
The national police commissioner, General Fannie Masemola, and other police top brass, met with the family members in Bloemfontein, to update them about the latest developments regarding the matter.
“Together as the management of the SAPS, we are confident that the team that is working around the clock in this case will find whoever it is, that is behind the disappearance of our own. We’re still looking forward to their contribution in crime fighting initiatives and we also looking forward to seeing them grow within our ranks. It is on this note that I announce the following, a R350 000 reward for any information on the whereabouts of our members and the whereabouts of those criminals that are behind the disappearance of our own,” said Masemola.
Furthermore, Masemola said their confident that they have deployed the necessary resources and expertise to ensure that the officers are found. Family members welcomed Masemola’s visit and commitment to resolve the matter.
“Yes, we had questions, we still have questions. But most of our questions were answered by the national commissioner. We just want to appeal to the public out there, anybody with information, nothing happens unnoticed nowadays, somebody must have seen something, somebody must know of something, consider this your kids as well.We as families, we’re pleading to anybody who noticed something out there to come forward, not because of the reward, but because of Ubuntu,” said Sipho Linda, constable Linda’s uncle.
The father of Constable Senoge, Paul, also pleaded for anyone with information that will lead to the safe return of the officers to come forward. “I’m pleading with everyone to bring back our families. If it was a hijacking, take the car and leave the officers alone.I’m confident that the officers are safe and would return home soon,” said Senoge. Constable Buys husband, Lwazi Diba, echoed Senoge’s comments.
“I’m confident that the police will do their best to bring them back alive. I just want my wife to be brought back alive,” said Diba.
