Sekhukhune stuns Amakhosi at the FNB stadium, to go top of the log

Betway Premiership surprise outfit Sekhukhune United have registered one of their biggest victories since the start of the season, after they beat Kaizer Chiefs 3-1 at the FNB stadium in Johannesburg on Tuesday.

Veteran striker Bradley Grobler inflicted harm on Amakhosi, by scoring a brace, to increase his professional soccer goals to 123.

Both teams were tied on 13 points each before the start of the match, but Sekhukhune were in second place due to the goal difference, while Chiefs were in third place.

Amakhosi made several changes to their squad, which has been winning most of their games since the start of the 2025/26 season.

Babina Noko took advantage of Chiefs lack of defensive concentration in the first five minutes of the match, when Grobler put the ball behind the net, making it the first goal that the host conceded this season.

But Amakhosi levelled the matter in the 13th minute through new signing Flavio Silva following a beautiful cross from Glody Lilepo.

Both teams wasted several chances to take the lead, but the score was 1-1 at halftime.

Grobler again took advantage of Chiefs erratic defence which failed to clear the ball, when he scored his second goal five minutes the restart of the second half.

Thabang Monare, who was celebrating his 36th birthday, sealed the visitors victory, when he netted Sekhukhune’s third goal in the 56th minute.

The win ensured that Sekhukhune tops the league and is unbeaten with 16 points from six games, ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns with two points.

This was Chiefs first loss of the season and first goals conceded in the current campaign and are stuck in third position in the log.

Meanwhile, in other league matches, Durban City emerged victorious after beating Siwelele FC 2-0 at the Chatsworth Stadium in Durban, to finish the night in fourth place in the log standings.

At the Buffalo City Stadium in East London, Chippa United recorded their first win of the season when they beat rookies Orbit College 2-1.
