The Judge Presiding over the Senzo Meyiwa murder, Ratha Mokgoatleng, ordered that accused Number 5 Sifisokuhle Ntuli be taken to a medical doctor and he must not just be given “tablets or castor oil” to deal with his illness.

The court was to continue with the cross-examination of Constable Sizwe Zungu who had placed all five accused in Vosloorus on the day that Mewiya was gunned down at his girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo’s home, in the same area.

However, defence lawyer, Zandile Mshololo asked for an early adjournment saying her client was not feeling well.

“My Lord, my client , informed me this morning that he is not feeling well and he is getting worse, my Lord, so I am seeking an adjournment until tomorrow so he can be taken to the hospital inside prison my Lord,” said Mshololo.

Judge Mokgoatleng adjourned the proceedings so Ntuli could be taken to hospital.

“I don’t want this gentleman to go to Leeuwkop and be given tablets and castor oil. He must be attended by a doctor to that effect. Your client should be attended by a doctor starting from today at Leeukop,” said Mokgoatleng.

Mokgoatleng then penned an order to be given to the head of the Leeukop prison where Ntuli has been imprisoned.

“Here is the order having heard counsel of Mr Sifisokuhle Nkani Ntuli accused Number 5 and the prosecution regarding the state of health of the above mentioned accused. It is hereby ordered that:

“1, Sifisokuhle Nkani Ntuli accused Number 5 will be examined by medical practitioners today 12th September 2023. 2, And that a medical report be presented to court on the 13th of September 2023 about his medical condition,” said the Judge.

The five men on trial are: Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Sifisokuhle Nkani Ntuli they have pleaded not guilty to charges of premeditated murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of firearms without a license and possession of ammunition.

The trial continues.
