The contamination of the crime scene takes the spotlight yet again as the fourth witness, Mthokozisi Thwala takes the stand at the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial in the North Gauteng High court on Friday.

The trial against five men: Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Sifisokuhle Nkani Ntuli continued on Friday in the North Gauteng High court.

Meyiwa was killed in an alleged botched robbery at the home of girlfriend and singer, Kelly Khumalo in October 2014 at her home in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni.

The five men have pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, unlawful possession of firearms and possession of ammunition.

Last year, forensic experts Thabo Mosia testified about the handling of the crime scene and the defense lawyers were adamant that the crime scene was contaminated.

At the time, Mosia admitted that some family members slept at the house where the Bafana Bafana captain and Orlando Pirates skipper was shot and killed on the night in question.

Now, the legal representative for two of the five accused Advocate Sipho Ramosepele, also questioned the contamination of the crime scene during the cross examination of the state witness, Thwala.

“What I was suggesting at the time was the idea that those cans that are on the scene do not reflect the number of cans that would have been there because there is evidence that a witness had cleaned up the scene before the police arrived. So that they can’t see the number of consumed alcohol in the house,” said Ramosepele.

However, Thwala said he is not in a position to answer the question because he did go back to the house on the fateful night.

“I hear what you are saying but unfortunately I am in no position to answer that question and I don’t know how to respond to that because after going to the hospital, I didn’t come back to the house. As I earlier explained that each person had his or her cans,” said Thwala

The case had to be adjourned on Friday after Ramosepele fell ill and it will continue on Monday.
