The first accused in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, Muzi Sibiya, is expected to return to the witness stand on Monday as proceedings resume in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria.
Sibiya, who became the first witness to testify for the defence last week, has denied any involvement in the killing of the late Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper.
Meyiwa was shot and killed in October 2014 at the Vosloorus home of singer Kelly Khumalo’s mother, a case that has gripped the nation for nearly a decade.
During his testimony, Sibiya claimed that he was not in Gauteng at the time of the incident. However, the state’s key witness, Constable Sizwe Zungu, previously told the court that all five accused were together at a hostel in Vosloorus on the day Meyiwa was murdered.
Advocate Zandile Mshololo is expected to begin her cross-examination of Sibiya on Monday. The matter was adjourned on Friday to allow her time to prepare after being absent from court for two days.
The trial continues.
