Friday marks exactly seven days since a woman was swept away by flash floods when she was driving in Sunninghill during heavy rains in Johannesburg.

Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) in collaboration with the SAPS and other rescue services units have been searching for the body of the woman without any success at the Jukskei River since last weekend.

EMS earlier this week said that search teams were divided into three and focused on Dainfern, Steyn City and Monaghan Farm, but without any success.

Despite this, EMS spokesperson Xolile Khumalo said they remain hopeful that the remains of the woman will be recovered.

“The Jukskei River is full to capacity, disruptive rainfall and high river level are making it difficult for a recovery of the woman’s body.

Both EMS aquatic team and SAPS remain hopeful for a recovery,” explained Khumalo.

The search is expected to continue on Friday.

The EMS continues to urge drivers to exercise caution during the heavy rains and avoid flooded roads.
