Major General Shadrack Sibiya has been appointed Deputy National Commissioner of Crime Detection, the Deputy National Commissioner Fannie Masemola announced on Friday.

Sibiya’s appointment comes into effect from July 1 and he also got promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General.
“Major General Sibiya brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the position having started his career as a student constable in 1989 at the Hammanskraal SAPS Academy. He started off his career at the Knysna SAPS in the detective environment and worked his way up the ranks. He has also served in various organisations and we are confident that he has the qualities that will steer crime detection in the right direction,” said Masemola.
Sibiya promised to hit the ground running and to work with other law enforcement agencies to fight crime in the country.
“It is truly an honour and a privilege to a task in which I commit myself to execute with vigour, diligence, honesty and integrity. Without any waste of time I think it is important to mention that my focus and immediate priority is to address crimes such as contract killings.
“We know that South African is really in trouble when it comes to contract killings, the hit man, taxi related killings, illegal mining, extortion, kidnapping, so called construction mafias and the cartels sabotaging electricity supply as well as transnational organised crime.
“Crime against the state and Sabotage of our national electricity grid, corruption and organised crime against women and children are some of the critical areas of focus for the SAPS that we must tackle head on and immediately.
“I am sure you will all agree with me that if we break the connections between carjacking, illegal firearms and drugs we will be well on our way to defeat organised crime in our beautiful country,” said Sibiya.
